HISTORY IN BRIEF

The first professional Omega Seamaster was presented in 1957 together with the Railmaster and the Speedmaster.
The name Seamaster had already been used for some Omega dress watches, but only in 1957, this name was dedicated to a series of professional models specifically designed by Omega for those who carried out underwater professional activities.
We should also remember that in that period it was not common for watches to be waterproof up to a few hundred meters.
Trying to follow the success of the Rolex Submariner models equipped with the patented Oyster system with screw-down caseback and crown, Omega, after years of research and the consequent acquisition of exclusive patents for the watch’s waterproof systems, presented the Seamaster reference 2913.
Reference 165014, like the present example, is a rare and transitional reference between the first Seamaster models coming with straight lugs and 39mm case size and the later redesigned references characterized by an enlarged bezel, 42mm case with twisted lugs still present on most models today.

OUR WATCH

The present Omega Seamaster ref. 165014-63 is for sure one of the best specimens we have ever seen in our watch traders career.
The overall conditions are simply unbelievable : the case is unpolished, caseback shows no signs of steel cancer like many example of this reference do, the fragile acrylic bezel has no cracks and the dial is in absolutely mint conditions, scratch – free, still retaining its original galvanic finish and with all the original lume plots.
All the components match the production period : galvanic dial, revolving bezel, acrylic insert, signed crown, caseback, 552 caliber.
Note that the present 165014 – 63 is the first edition of the reference 165014.
In particular, in the case of the first edition of the reference 165014, it is absolutely certain that the earlier examples produced, like the watch we are offering for sale, were supplied with this hands set.
This fact is also confirmed by old catalogues and advertisements (see last picture attached).
This particular hand set can then be considered as the icing on the cake of this historically important and exceptionally preserved waterproof watch manufactured by Omega.
